I am a Spanish sociophonetician, and my work focuses on socially conditioned variation in speech production and perception in Spanish, with attention to social meanings attached to different linguistic variants and implications for speakers and their interlocutors.

I currently hold two academic positions: NTT Assistant Professor at Occidental College, and Lecturer and Level Coordinator at UCLA.

My name is pronounced (IPA): [mə.ˈɾiʃ.kə boʊ.li.ˈɑ.nɪts]
(it's a Hungarian family name).
